Giving Tuesday in Hoboken
This Tuesday is “Giving Tuesday” a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
For those of us in Hoboken, there’s quite a few different ways we can participate in Giving Tuesday. One is through participating in Happy Hour at The Shannon! On Tuesday December 1st from 7-10pm, head over to The Shannon. Donate $10 at the door, and enjoy extended happy hour prices until 10pm, there will also be a beer pong tournament with a $5 entry per team. Proceeds to benefit The Starfish Foundation, a foundation making education possible for 150 at-risk youth in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
If you have any kids in your family, you can give outgrown toys a great new home to places accepting both new AND gently used toys for children in need. Reach Out and Read is an organization that accepts new or gently used children’s books, and specializes in promoting literacy at a young age. A close location you can donate to is a mere 10 minutes away from the Rivington at North Hudson Community Action Corporation at 324 Pallisade Avenue, Jersey City, NJ.
You can also donate your unwanted clothing to the Salvation Army. They have two nearby locations (Jersey City and Union City). Not only will someone else benefit, you’ll also qualify for tax deductions and love the newfound space in your Rivington apartment.
