Get your Final Taste of Summer on the Hudson River

by admin

In New Jersey, summer doesn’t really end when the final days of August pass – the hot, humid weather tends to linger for a bit longer into September. That means that you still have some time to get out of your cozy Rivington apartment and onto the water on the Hudson River in a kayak.
The Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse at 10 Sinatra Dr. N. offers free kayaking to the public from May through the end of September, weather permitting. This nonprofit public boathouse is run by volunteers, many of whom are experienced kayakers and want to share their love of the Hudson River. They provide about 6,000 people with free kayaking each season.
Paddling is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, however, there is rarely a wait longer than 20 minutes. Kids can go out on the water too, but they need to go out with a parent or a guardian if they are under the age of 16.
Visitors get the opportunity to paddle for 20 to 25 minutes, and even longer if there is no one waiting. The direction and destination depends on the time and tide, which are influenced by weather conditions that day.
The Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse also hosts guided river trips that last one to two hours that are much more of a workout than the 20-minute kayak trips. No real kayaking experience is necessary, but participants must be at least 18-years-old and need to know how to swim. Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen, hat and clothes that will dry quickly.

Seafood for Summer in Hoboken

by admin

Our waterfront city is nautical all year round, but there’s something about the summer that just gets us in the mood for seafood. Whether’s it’s waterfront dining with beautiful city views, or a greasy little food truck with the best fried seafood around, Hoboken has a few great summery options for sea food lovers.

Biggie’s Clam Bar: With multiple locations around New Jersey (and one in Tennessee!) Biggie’s Clam Bar is a local, casual favorite for some seafood. Just as much a destination for their social scene and outdoor dining, Biggie’s is the perfect atmosphere for a casual night of fried delights from the sea.

Luke’s Lobster: While most equate lobster to New England, in Hoboken it’s all about Luke. Luke’s has locations all around the country, but we love Hoboken’s with it’s rustic, chic vibe. You can also catch Luke’s on the go, with their food truck frequently seen around the city, tantalizing residents with their mouth watering lobster rolls.

Del Frisco’s Grille: Upscale and on the waterfront, Del Frisco’s is everything that you expect a good seafood restaurant to be. Famous in name for it’s Manhattan counterpart, this Hoboken seafood restaurant is a must for those looking for a date night with a side of shellfish.
