There’s no better way to warm up without hustling indoors than doing a few laps around an outdoor ice skating rink. Luckily for Rivington residents, there’s a brand new outdoor ice skating rink right in your neighborhood, which opened Dec. 22 and will remain open until Feb. 28.
The rink, known as Harlow Winter Village, is located under the 14th Street Viaduct between Grand Street and Adams Street, which is about half a mile from your Rivington apartment. Admission to the skating rink is free and is meant for standard metal blade ice-skates; visitors can bring their own skates or rent them for $10. Plus, if you’re looking for a snack, vendors are on-site selling hot drinks and food during the rink’s open hours, which are Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
If you’re looking to do some ice skating any time of year, here are some other ice skating rinks located near your Rivington apartment:
Newport Skates, located at 100 Town Square, Jersey City, which is about two and a half miles from your Rivington apartment, is open from November through March. They also offer drop-in classes, group classes and private lessons.
The Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers, located at 61 Chelsea Piers, New York, which is about four and a half miles from your Rivington apartment, is New York City’s most popular year-round indoor ice rink since 1969. This twin-rink facility operates seven days a week, welcoming skaters of all ages and ability levels.
