by admin

Mardi Gras is just around the corner on Feb. 28, and even though your Rivington apartment isn’t anywhere near the famous celebration city of New Orleans, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t tons of fun events happening near your apartment allowing you to enjoy some Southern comfort foods and festive drinks.

To find out where to celebrate the famous holiday of letting loose without hopping on a plane, check out the following local spots:

The Village Pourhouse, which is a classic sports bar offering a huge beer list, is located at 205 1st Street, Hoboken which is about a mile and a half from your Rivington apartment. For Mardi Gras, this local hotspot will host a crawfish eating conference and live music.

Drink specials include $2 Coors Light drafts, $3 Magic Hat drafts, $3 Abita bottles, $5 Hurricanes, $15 Hurricane fishbowls, $5 Hand Grenades and $15 Hand Grenade fishbowls – plus, if you get hungry, don’t miss out on the $6 crawfish boil baskets.

Zeppelin Hall Beer Garden, a busy European-style venue with self-serve German and American grub and lots of beers in a sizable space, is located at 88 Liberty View Drive in Jersey City, which about three miles from your Rivington apartment. This popular spot may be German, but that doesn’t mean they can’t celebrate Mardi Gras – they will have live music starting at 10 p.m.

Plus, the beer garden will be serving up a crawfish boil, shrimp and grits, gumbo, muffuletta sandwiches, po’ boys, and beignets for dessert as well as a full BBQ menu – so don’t forget to eat some delicious Southern food alongside your Mardi Gras drinks!

Play Classic Games and Enjoy Craft Beers at Barcade

by admin

Need to unwind for a while? Luckily for busy Rivington residents, there’s a local spot to both bring out your inner child and enjoy craft beers – Barcade, located at 163 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, which is only three miles from your Rivington apartment.

Barcade has locations in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Connecticut and opened its Jersey City location in 2011. Open from Sundays to Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Barcade serves snacks such as sliders, stuffed garlic bread, bratwurst and quesadillas as well as drinks.

Some of the classic favorite games that you can expect to find at Barcade include Asteroids, Blazing Star, Defender, Donkey Kong, Megan Man 3, Ms. Pac Man, Primal Rage and more.

All of the Barcade games accept Barcade tokens rather than quarters, which cost 25 cents each and most of the games only need one token to play. There are token machines on site where visitors can exchange up to a $20 bill for Barcade tokens.

Popular sporting events can also usually be found on television and tables can be reserved for parties on Sundays through Thursdays. Plus, for groups of 25+ people, special pricing can be arranged.

Currently, you can find tons of bar and arcade locations throughout locations, however when Barcade opened in 2004, it was credited as the inspiration behind the trend that now exists throughout the state.
